Remanufacture may be possible

OBDII VAG Description
P0716 17100 Gearbox input speed sensor (G182), unlikely signal

First check sensor G182 for contamination by metal particles.

If there is any contamination, check the gearbox thoroughly for mechanical wear/ damage. Then also check the gearbox oil filter, as it can become clogged. In this case, the oil will circulate through the bypass, which means that the oil will no longer be filtered. This may cause contamination of sensors.

Then clean the sensor and check that the error code is still present. If this is the case, then it is still plausible that the TCU is defective and needs to be remanufactured.

P2711 19143 Unlikely gear shift sequence

First check the accelerometer magnets for contamination by metal particles. If there is any contamination, check the gearbox thoroughly for mechanical wear/damage. Then also check the gearbox oil filter, as it can become clogged. In this case, the oil will circulate through the bypass, which means that the oil will no longer be filtered. This may cause contamination of sensors.

Then clean the magnets and check that the error code is still present. If this is the case, then it is still plausible that the TCU is defective and needs to be remanufactured.

DSG 6 DQ250 (02E) TCU Repair

DSG is short for Direkt Schalt Getriebe (German) or Direct Shift Gear. It is in fact a robotic manual gearbox. The 02E is a 6-stage transverse transmission with a nominal torque of 250 Nm equipped with a wet clutch. The DSG 6 is used in various mid-range vehicles of the VAG group. How would you notice any problems with a DSG gear box? The gear indicator on the instrument cluster will flash, the DSG gear box might not change gear properly or at all. The car will probably not drive smoothly and will shock when pulling away. TCU is short for Transmission Control Unit also called TCM or automatic gearbox control device. DSG stands for Direkt Schalt Getriebe, the 6 for the number of gears, the letters DQ for transverse transmission placement and the number 250 for the nominal torque. The control device of this DSG transmission is called 'Mechatronic'.

Diagnostics

Technicians in the workshop will be able to verify the faults by making a test drive. The fault will also be able to be verified by reading the OBD diagnostic trouble codes.   Often heard faults are the DSG not or not properly shifting and several types of defects in the magnetic valves or sensors.

Vibrations and temperature changes can influence the bonds and magnetic valves on the printed circuit board.

Result on different parts

A faulty DSG 6 TCU (Mechatronic) can cause the vehicle to not change gear or drive properly. In addition, error codes can be caused in various other control devices.  If a DSG 6 TCU faults, the gear box will not or not properly shift gears. It will not be possible to drive the car normally.
Remanufacture solution. The DSG 6 TCU will be tested upon entry. During this test, it will be verified if the fault reported by the customer can be reproduced. If the fault is observed, the TCU will continue in the remanufacture process. At the end of the process the TCU will be tested to verify that all faults have been rectified and it operates as it should be.

Information for the mechanic

The manufacturer's instructions must be adhered to when removing the unit. The long sensor arm is very prone to damage. A specially developed transport packaging is available for the transmission. Please contact our customer service to arrange shipment.

When installing the TCU, always follow the manufacturer's instructions. ACtronics will send a code card with instructions to get the TCU set up in the car after the remanufacture. Always follow the instructions on this code card. Clear any error codes present and perform a basic adjustment of the DSG 6.
